Frustrated coach’s ‘question’ after Macarthur bow out of finals race: ‘We’re wasting money’

Macarthur Bulls head coach Mile Sterjovski vented his frustration with VAR as the 2024 Australia Cup champions saw their Isuzu UTE A-League top-six hopes dashed by Melbourne Victory.

The Bulls were beaten 2-1 by visiting Victory in Campbelltown on Friday night – a result that eliminated Macarthur from the Finals Series race with one round remaining.

First-half goals from Ryan Teague and Kasey Bos inspired Victory, despite Chris Ikonomidis pulling a goal back in the second period amid a rallying surge.
Macarthur appealed for two penalties in the second half, one for handball and another for a foul on Marin Jakolis but neither were awarded to the eighth-placed Bulls.

“They have time to have a look at it. We saw a quick replay on the big screen and it was obvious one of them was definitely a penalty in my opinion.

“I feel like we’re wasting money on VAR each season. I hear it’s upwards of $1million each season to have.
