Melbourne City star and Subway Socceroo Marco Tilio was substituted out of his side’s Isuzu UTE A-League clash with Western United with an apparent hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old fell to the ground holding his left hamstring after a driving run through midfield in the first half of the Monday night fixture at AAMI Park, and was replaced by teenager Medin Memeti in the City XI with just 40 minutes on the clock.
A quad injury then ruled Tilio out contention for the Olyroos’ 2024 U23 Asian Cup campaign in but after a solid pre-season at City, the exciting young forward began the season brightly with a match-winning goal against Newcastle Jets in Round 1.
City persevered without Tilio to beat Western 1-0 but there was a second injury blow to come for the club; Andrew Nabbout scored the goal for City on the night but was substituted just minutes later with an apparent knee injury.
