Four Ninja A-League stars named in Matildas squad, incl. ‘highly regarded’ teen: Full details

New Western United goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln has been called up by the CommBank Matildas for the first time as Australia prepare for a pair of friendlies this month.

The “highly regarded” 19-year-old is one of four Ninja A-League-based players in the Matildas’ 23-player squad for upcoming matches against Switzerland (October 26) and Germany (October 29) – Tom Sermanni’s first as interim head coach following Tony Gustavsson’s exit.

Lincoln – a bronze medallist with the CommBank Young Matildas at the 2024 AFC Under-20 Women’s Asian Cup – swapped Canberra for Western in the off-season and was described as “Australia’s brightest goalkeeping talent” upon her arrival in Tarneit.
Brisbane Roar duo Tameka Yallop and Sharn Freier have also been selected, as has Canberra United and A-Leagues legend Michelle Heyman with the 2024-25 Ninja A-League campaign set to begin next month.

“The last couple of weeks has been a whirlwind of phone calls, text messages and virtual meetings but nothing beats the opportunity to come together face to face,” Sermanni said.

“As we begin the road to the home Asian Cup in 2026, our next two camps are a chance to set the foundations with this October squad featuring a core of experienced members currently playing and training consistently in their club environments.

“They also bring with them significant experience through the development pathway of the youth national teams, Future Matildas’ program and A-League Women.

“We have six invaluable matches from October to December to cultivate opportunities for players whether they are Australian or overseas based, and I am looking forward to commencing the rewarding work.”
