Former Pakistan batter Asif Ali has hinted at a possible return to international cricket, while making it clear that his immediate focus remains on performing in the upcoming 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11), set to begin on March 26.
The hard-hitting middle-order batter, who retired from international cricket in September last year after representing Pakistan in 21 ODIs and 58 T20Is, had initially stated that he would continue playing domestic and franchise cricket. However, he has now signaled that he remains available if the national team requires his services.
Speaking to reporters during a training session of Lahore Qalandars, Asif Ali pointed to recent examples of players returning from retirement, including Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, who made comebacks for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He emphasized that his job is to play cricket and that he would be ready if an opportunity arises.
Despite leaving the door open for a comeback, the 34-year-old reiterated that his primary goal is to deliver for Lahore Qalandars in PSL 11 as they aim to defend their title.
Asif Ali also made it clear that he intends to continue playing professional cricket as long as he maintains his fitness, underlining his commitment to the game. Known for his finishing abilities, he added that he is willing to bat at any position based on the team’s requirements and combinations.
