The volleyball world is heading to Thailand for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship (22 August-7 September).
Thirty-two nations from across the globe will complete for the women’s volleyball crown, currently held by Serbia who have won the last two editions of the tournament.
Four cities will play host to the eight pools – capital Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima and Phuket – with the Thai capital also hosting the final round. There are four teams making their World Championships debut in 2025: Vietnam, Sweden, Slovenia and Slovakia.
In the 2025 edition there will be even more competition, spearheaded by Olympic and Volleyball Nations League champions Italy aiming to complete the hat-trick with world championship glory. Can they lift the world title for the first time in 23 years?
They will need to make it past their recurring rival of recent time in Brazil, one of the sport’s dominant forces yet enduring a drought of lifting the top prizes. Four times they have finished runners-up, aiming to go one step further in Thailand.
Meanwhile, the USA hope to continue building on from their silver medal at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, now turning attention to a competition where they have not medalled in since 2014.
The top two teams in each pool will progress from the preliminary round into the final round, which takes place in a knockout stage format from the round of 16 all the way to the final in Bangkok on 7 September.
