Aussie champion tipped to ‘take her game to another level’ after joining Ninja A-League premiers

Melbourne City have signed Australia Under-23 international Aideen Keane for the Ninja A-League 2025-26 season.

Keane arrives following a standout ASEAN Women’s Championship MSIG Serenity Cup campaign with Australia, where the Ninja A-Leagues-led side claimed the title for the first time in 17 years.

The 23-year-old winger scored in the semi-final before setting up Holly Furphy’s match-winning strike in the decider against Myanmar.

“I’m so excited to be joining Melbourne City, a club with such a strong reputation and history
of success,” said Keane, who has scored four goals across 39 league appearances having most recently played for Canberra United.

“I’ve heard nothing but positive things about the culture and professionalism here, and I can’t wait to challenge myself in this environment.

“My focus is on working hard, contributing to the team in any way I can, and hopefully helping the club achieve even more success this season.”

Keane’s arrival bolsters City’s squad as they also gear up for another AFC Women’s Champions League campaign.

Finalists in the inaugural 2024-25 Champions League, Keane is no stranger to continental competition after featuring in the 2023 AFC Women’s Club Championship after winning a Ninja A-League Championship with Sydney FC.

“We’re delighted to welcome Aideen to Melbourne City,” said City’s director of football Michael Petrillo. “She’s a dynamic attacking player who has already shown her quality both in the A-League Women’s and with the Australian U23 team.

“Her technical ability and work rate strengthens our squad, and we believe she has the potential to take her game to another level in our environment.

“We’re excited to see the impact she can make this season.”
