“This is a significant addition to our sporting calendar leading into Brisbane 2032”, he said.

“AusCycling has worked tremendously hard to bring this to fruition, so they deserve every credit. A world championship on home turf so close to the Brisbane Games is a wonderful boost for our athletes.

“Through occasions such as these, Australia can continue to demonstrate its capacity to host major global sports events that will engage the community and create interest across the world with fans coming to Australia to witness the world’s best track cyclists in action.

“We have also seen Brisbane host two rounds of the UCI BMX Racing World Cup earlier this year.

“Hosting the Olympic Games in 2032 will continue to provide a catalyst for these opportunities with Australia showcasing our ability to conduct major international sport.

“Recently, the Penrith Whitewater Stadium was named as host for the 2025 International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom World Championship, also demonstrating the physical legacy that can flow from hosting an Olympic Games. That venue was created for Sydney 2000 and it’s still delivering,” Mr Chesterman said.

More than 30 major global events are scheduled between 2024 and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
