AOC Welcomes New Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority Board

The AOC has welcomed the appointment of the new Board for the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority.

The seven-member Board’s first task, as outlined by the Queensland Government, will be to conduct a 100-day review of planning, competition venues, transport and infrastructure needs including athlete villages for the Brisbane 2032 Games.

AOC President Ian Chesterman said the announcement was a positive signal of momentum.

“The AOC, as a signatory to the Host City Contract and custodian of the Olympic movement in this country, is vitality interested in ensuring that we all deliver the best possible Olympic Games in 2032,” Mr Chesterman said.

“We welcome the formation of the new Board and congratulate the seven members on their appointment.

“The establishment of the Board marks an important milestone that will drive a new wave of momentum ahead of the home Games’ for Brisbane and the country.

“We look forward to contributing to the work of the new Authority over the course of its 100-day review and beyond, to support the best possible outcomes for the Games and the athletes as well as meeting the long-term needs of the Queensland community,” he said.

AOC Chief Executive Matt Carroll said the Board, to be led by Chair Stephen Conry AM, comprised a strong mix of talent and skills.

“With deep experience across sport, development, infrastructure, planning, tourism and entertainment, the Board is equipped to not only navigate the challenges of delivering a home Games, but to also ensure every opportunity is maximised,” Mr Carroll said.

“The potential positive impact of Brisbane’s hosting of the 2032 Games cannot be overstated, and we must ensure the Games deliver lasting legacy benefits, beyond infrastructure, for Queenslanders and all Australians.

“I know they will be keen to get on with the job when they first meet on Monday,” he said.

The AOC also welcomed the appointment of Mr David Hourigan as the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority’s new Interim CEO, and acknowledged the organisation’s renaming from its original Games Venue and Legacy Delivery Authority (GVLDA).

The new Board includes Stephen Conry AM (Chair), Jess Caire, Tony Cochrane AM, Jill Davies, Jamie Fitzpatrick, Sue Johnson and Laurence Lancini AM.
