The AOC has announced the appointment of Ellie Laing-Southwood to the position of Chief of Communication and Media.
Ms Laing-Southwood has an extensive career in senior communications positions across government, media, sport and the private sector.
She will come to the AOC from her present position as the Head of Communications, Media and Marketing with the Property Council of Australia and is currently serving her second term on the board of Sport NSW, the peak body representing the state’s sport and active recreation sector.
AOC Chief Executive Officer Matt Carroll says Ms Laing-Southwood was an outstanding candidate in a highly credentialled field as the AOC looks to build on the momentum from the Paris Team with our initiatives across community, schools, Indigenous reconciliation and Olympians and building to a home Games – Brisbane 2032.

“She has an impressive blend of experience across senior communications positions from her current position with the Property Council of Australia to previous roles as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker at NSW Parliament, Director of Communication to the Deputy Premier of NSW and with Destination NSW.
“Importantly, Ellie possesses a strong understanding of how the sports sector operates through her time on the board of Sport NSW. She is passionate about sport and the role it can play in the Australian community.
Ms Laing-Southwood’s career includes significant experience in television journalism with Channels Seven, Ten, SBS and the ABC and she has previously lectured in journalism at Macleay College in Sydney. She begins the role in late November 2024.
