Adelaide extend undefeated streak in tense showdown with Western after stunning goal

Adelaide United made six games without defeat after drawing 1-1 against Western United in the Ninja A-League on Saturday.

Erin Healy’s stunning ninth-minute goal was cancelled out by Catherine Zimmerman just past the hour mark as Adelaide and Western shared the points at Marden Sports Complex.

Third-placed Adelaide extended their unbeaten run, though they are still yet to beat Western in the Ninja A-League, while the Green and Black are sixth and four points behind the Reds and 10 points off the pace.

Adelaide took a five-game unbeaten streak into the contest but they were eyeing history against Western United.

The Reds had never beaten Western since the Green and Black entered the competition in 2022-23, losing all three matchups.

They made the perfect start in the ninth minute when Healy’s thunderous long-range effort cannoned off the crossbar and crossed the line.

There was a great chance for Kahli Johnson to restored parity six minutes later. The in-form Western forward was bearing down on goal, however, she was denied by Adelaide keeper Claudia Jenkins.

Western came within a whisker of equalising in the 29th minute after Isabel Dehakiz’s attempt was cleared off the line.

The visiting side did get their equaliser just past the hour mark.

It was a lunging Zimmerman who desperately got her boot to the ball as she fired past Jenkins to restore parity in the 61st minute.

Johnson nearly put Western ahead 10 minutes from the end but her delicate chip sailed just over the crossbar.
