A-Leagues sensation lands new deal after Matildas call-up: ‘It has been really special’

Brisbane Roar star Laini Freier has capped her maiden CommBank Matildas selection with a two-year contract extension.

Freier will remain at the Roar through to the end of the 2026-27 Ninja A-League following a blistering start to life as a professional.

The 23-year-old and twin sister of Sharn, who will join Wolfsburg at the end of the season, has scored seven goals and supplied two assists in her first 10 games – a tally which has seen Freier selected for this month’s SheBelieves Cup in the United States.

“It has been really special playing with my sister at this level and being able to play for my hometown in front of my family and friends,” said Freier, who became the first player in Ninja A-League history to score back-to-back hat-tricks earlier this season.

“I’m grateful for the bunch of girls that I have been playing with and to be able to learn from the experienced girls. I look forward to being at Roar for another couple of seasons.”
