Borussia Dortmund No9 Serhou Guirassy averaged a goal every 86 minutes in February. It was aided by the Guinean becoming the third man, after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Erling Haaland, to net four times in a match for the Black and Yellow this century.
Guirassy joined Dortmund in July after scoring 30 goals in 30 games for Stuttgart in 2023/24, and has hit the ground running. He struck 10 goals in his first nine UEFA Champions League outings, becoming the third BVB player to reach double figures in a season after Robert Lewandowski and Haaland. The 29-year-old also shares the record for 14 goal involvements by an African player in one campaign with Mo Salah. Guirassy is one goal shy of Raphinha of Barcelona, whom Dortmund will play in the quarter-finals, at the top of the scoring chart. He was on target twice in a 3-2 loss to Barça in December. Guirassy is aiming to become the first African in 30 years – George Weah of Paris Saint-Germain was the last – to finish as the Champions League’s leading marksman.
Dortmund will open their FIFA Club World Cup campaign against Fluminense FC in New York New Jersey, before taking on Mamelodi Sundowns FC and Ulsan HD in Cincinnati.
